Indhira reproduces the pattern of an early twentieth-century Indian sari, an all-over motif of stylised flowers carrying the charm of block-printed design. Patterns of this kind endure because they are generous without being demanding: the repeat is dense enough to read as texture from a distance, yet open enough to keep each flower distinct at close range. It carries its provenance lightly, a document from the world of dress, resettled into the interior.
