Isabelle has an irregular slubbed weft that recalls hand-woven wool — the thickenings left in rather than combed out, so the surface is uneven in a deliberate way. The charm is unmistakably of the sixties, when that kind of honest texture was prized. It reads as a plain from a distance and as something considerably more interesting up close, which is the most useful thing a plain can do.
