Jardins Japonais reproduces a nineteenth-century gouache from the Pierre Frey archives, illustrating the composition and elegance of Japanese gardens. It is printed on a raffia ground laminated to a non-woven backing, so the image sits on a genuinely textured natural surface rather than flat paper. The pairing is a happy one: the discipline of the garden drawing against the informality of raffia, an archive document made physical as well as visual.
