Kanawa is a toile de Jouy, its scenes given over to pavilions and to fishing — figures at the water's edge, architecture set among trees, the narrative unfolding across the drop as these papers have always done. It is hand-printed in a frame, a slow method that leaves the ink sitting on the surface with a density mechanical printing does not reach, and it is supplied untrimmed.
