Katabira is inspired by the cameos of textile motifs found in Japanese prints, those glimpses of stripes, checks and small patterns worn by their subjects. Tufted in wool and bamboo, it uses the alternation of matt and shiny materials to serve the design, each motif catching or absorbing light according to its fibre. The rug reads as a composed collection of cloths, a print-lover's floor, quietly scholarly and full of incident.
