Pierre Frey | Kildare

Kildare takes a tartan and pulls it towards a stripe: the repeat is 19 cm one way and only 3 cm the other, so it reads as a textured, banded weave rather than a traditional plaid. It is the more contemporary side of Sequana II and works well on upholstered pieces with clean lines, where a full tartan would feel too country. Rated to 25,000 rubs, it suits a sofa or armchair in everyday use. Each of the three colourways mixes four or five shades, so it makes a useful bridge between a plain and a stronger pattern in the same room.

• Notes: Develops a patina with use. Reinforce seams to prevent fraying. Slight irregularities in the weave are characteristic.
