Pierre Frey | La pannonie – Saphir

La Pannonie is a precious embroidery on raw silk, reproducing an eighteenth-century wallpaper originally printed from wooden boards and preserved in the archives of Maison Pierre Frey. The translation from wall to cloth is the pleasure of it: a pattern once pressed flat in ink is here rebuilt stitch by stitch, gaining relief and the soft, slubbed light of raw silk. An archive document promoted, rather than merely reproduced.
