La Valliere carries a nineteenth-century motif of winding, sinuous branches embellished with birds, created by flat screen printing on cotton. The drawing has the easy movement of its period, branches that wander rather than repeat mechanically, with birds placed where the composition wants punctuation. Flat screen printing keeps the line soft and the surface matt on the cotton ground. A document pattern of gentle character, at home in bedrooms and quiet sitting rooms.
