Lasso sets horses galloping through the composition in a single sweep of movement, a lucid dream, as the house has it. It reproduces a piece by Fontaine from 1947 and appears within the capsule collection of Vincent Darre, whose taste for the theatrical suits the subject perfectly. The fabric carries its mid-century origin lightly: the drawing is period, the energy is not, and the horses run as freshly as they did in 1947.
