Le Printemps du Mekong Metal is modelled on a toile de Jouy, representing chinoiseries and scenes of daily life along the riverside. It takes the familiar grammar of the toile, vignettes of ordinary life composed into a repeating landscape, and relocates it to the banks of the Mekong. The metal edition gives those riverside scenes a reflective ground, so the paper carries light through the room as the river carries it through the drawing.
