Les Feuillages is a hand-knotted rug illustrating the paintings of Veronique Villaret. The composition is an irregular checkerboard, enriched by the textural effects of cut and loop pile working side by side, so each square carries its own surface as well as its own passage of the painting. It is a painterly rug in the proper sense, an artist's work carried into knotted wool, with the construction doing as much expressive work as the drawing.
