Pierre Frey | Les Lions – Rouge

Les Lions reproduces a fitted wallpaper printed by the block printing technique at the Royale Reveillon manufactory in Paris around 1786, and the original paper is kept in the house's own archives. Reveillon was the great name of pre-Revolutionary French wallpaper, which makes this a document of real standing: an eighteenth-century wall, resettled onto cloth. The lions carry their age with dignity, ornament from a moment when Paris led the decorative world.
