Les Rocheuses belongs to an unreal, imaginary world where nature is unchained, its execution and atmosphere recalling seventeenth-century engravings from northern Europe. Printed on a cut pile, the carpet is an all-over version of the stormy ocean from the panoramic wallpaper of the same name, the drama redistributed evenly underfoot. It is a romantic floor in the original sense of the word, weather as decoration, handled with an engraver's discipline.
