Madame de Polignac is a reinterpretation of an archive held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, from Oberkampf's collection of floral indiennes. Interlacing bamboo and carnations are flat screen printed on a particularly fine, dense cotton canvas, so the drawing keeps the crispness of the original document. The design earned its credentials in distinguished company: it was used in the renovation of the queen's small apartments at Versailles, and it wears that history lightly.
