Maoming is inspired by a traditional Chinese silk ikat, and the pattern takes on a spectacular dimension at the scale of a knotted rug. Its shaded ground refers to abrash — the variation once considered a dyeing fault, born of yarns coloured batch by batch, and now a technique in its own right. That deliberate unevenness keeps the large surface alive: nowhere does it settle into flatness, and the ikat blur reads beautifully underfoot.
