Martinique is a charming escapade around a sugar mill, recalling holiday time on the island, the vegetation sparkling in the sunshine. The drawing was designed in 1953 by Margerin and belongs to the Pierre Frey archives; it is produced here as an extra-wide print, which lets the scene unfold across the wall rather than repeat against it. It has the ease of mid-century travel posters with rather more botanical conviction.
