Meudon freely evokes the geometry of French gardens in a magnificent ciselé velvet, characterised by its silky pile and soft feel. The carving of the velvet does what clipped hedging does in a parterre: it draws the plan in changes of height, so the pattern is read as much by shadow as by line. It is particularly suited to seating, where the density of the pile and the discipline of the design both earn their keep.
