Monbazillac is a piqué reproducing Provençal-style quilting that dates to the eighteenth century, adorned with stylised arabesque flowers. The construction is the charm: piqué carries its pattern in relief, as true boutis quilting does, so the arabesques are raised from the cloth rather than printed on it. It has the sunlit domesticity of the south of France — a fabric for bedcovers, seats and rooms that take their comfort seriously.
