Montlivaut sits halfway between a lively chevron and a hint of point de Hongrie, that oldest of flame-stitch patterns, woven as an Axminster carpet and offered in two colourways. The zigzag has the useful property of ordering a large floor without tiring it: the eye follows the rhythm rather than counting the repeat. It is a charming, well-mannered design with several centuries of precedent behind its geometry.
