Monuments d'Égypte draws its inspiration from an early nineteenth-century canvas originally printed on a copper roll at the celebrated Oberkampf manufactory in Jouy-en-Josas. The designer looked to the evocative paintings of Louis-François Cassas, channelling the Egyptomania that captivated France following Napoleon's campaigns of 1798. This fabric captures that epoch's fascination with Egyptian civilisation, when decorative arts—particularly textiles—became vessels for an exotic aesthetic that still resonates with understated sophistication and historical reverence.
