Following the printed fabric of the same name, Maison Pierre Frey reproduces Obsidienne — the abstract work of the American artist Heather Chontos — in a handmade carpet quality. The balance between the strength of the gesture and the graphic expression of the motif is rendered in a play of cut silk velvet on a linen ground, artisanally woven. The painting's marks become changes of material: gleam for gesture, grain for ground.
