Parterre is a faithful reproduction of a gouache carpet design from the second half of the nineteenth century, preserved in the archives of Maison Pierre Frey. The motif evokes the parterres and delicate, lace-like lawns of France's château gardens — planting as embroidery — and it is printed on a textile base laminated onto a non-woven backing, so the wall carries real cloth beneath the garden. A design that moved from floor to wall, gracefully.
