Pommes de Pin reproduces a Valoise from the start of the eighteenth century — a very fine silk cloth mentioned in corporate by-laws as early as 1669, fashionable at the turn of that century, extraordinarily lustrous and embellished with flowers among other motifs. Le Manach returned to this document many times, first reproducing it in lampas before making it one of the emblematic prints of its collection. Few patterns carry their paperwork back to Louis XIV.
