Pondichéry is a reproduction of a very beautiful indienne, painted and printed in the eighteenth century with flowers in bloom. The original document, kept in the heritage archives of Maison Pierre Frey, was used in its day as a panel — a format that suits the design's generosity, the flowering composition unfolding rather than repeating. It is the classic Indian chintz tradition at its most gracious, faithfully returned to use.
