Pierre Frey | Pondichery - broderie – Multicolore

Pondichéry Broderie is an embroidery on linen reproducing the Pondichéry motif — a design taken from a fabulous painted and dyed fabric from eighteenth-century India, kept in our archives. The stitched version honours the original's craft with craft of its own: flowers once painted and mordant-dyed now built up in thread, with the relief and slight irregularity of the needle. Two textile traditions, three centuries apart, in genuine conversation.
