Salama is a tone-on-tone embroidery with an Indian pattern, worked on wide-width linen. Keeping the stitching in the register of the ground cloth means the motif appears and recedes with the light — pattern you discover rather than pattern that announces itself. The wide width makes it generous for curtains, where its quiet relief does its best work in long, unbroken drops.
