Scènes Indiennes reproduces an Indian block-printed pattern dating from the eighteenth century — one of those travelling designs whose motifs crossed oceans and entered the European decorative vocabulary for good. The print keeps the character of its woodblock origins: drawing with a slight softness of edge, repeats with a hand-made cadence. It is a document fabric in the best sense, historical without being precious about it.
