Pierre Frey | Shaolin – Jade

Shaolin is a printed linen-and-cotton canvas with striking watercolour effects, enhanced by subtle embroidery that highlights its plant motif. The design draws on a nineteenth-century gouache reflecting the Japanese taste of that era, preserved in the Maison Pierre Frey archives. Print supplies the wash and atmosphere; the needle adds relief and precision. It is a layered piece of making in service of a single, serene image.
