St Peters is a magnificent reinterpretation of 'Indian porcelain', the eighteenth-century term for woodblock prints made in direct reference to imported Chinese porcelain. The textile is equally inspired by the baroque silks of the 1730s, with their motifs of large flowers and serrated leaves. Screen printed, it carries three centuries of cross-cultural borrowing in one design — porcelain, silk and cloth in conversation.
