Tahiti is a landscape of coconut palms embroidered entirely by hand, where raffia and generous cotton threads are juxtaposed to animate an exotic oasis. The mixing of materials does the work: the raffia brings a dry, natural texture, the cotton a softness set against it, and together they give the scene genuine depth. It is embroidery as picture-making, best placed where it can be read at leisure.
