Tepoto is a scale pattern embroidered with threads of different weights, and that variation is what gives it a faint vibration — the rhythm of the repeat is regular, but the line thickness is not, so the surface never quite settles. Embroidery raises the scales off the ground, which adds shadow to the effect. Refined, and more interesting the closer you get to it.
