Theodora is a free creation drawn from old plates of Russian illuminations of Byzantine inspiration. Entirely hand-knotted in Nepal, the fineness of the knotting honours the refinement of the engravings behind the composition, while the alternation of wool and silk velvet magnifies the intensity of the whole. The result is resolutely original and contemporary — an ancient vocabulary spoken in the present tense.
