Totem represents Christian Astuguevieille's visual manifesto, where his distinctive pictorial language finds its fullest expression. The design weaves together figurative imagery—civilisation's emblems such as objects, amphorae and shields—with abstract graphic elements, creating what the artist terms an "imaginary writing". Developed through vertical compositions rendered in India ink and bold brushwork on tracing paper, the pattern is composed of four distinct bands. Embroidery enriches the surface, introducing dimensional depth to this compelling artistic statement.
