Chennai is a small-scale ikat woven in cotton and silk from the Orvieto collection. The silk takes the dye differently from the cotton, so the feathered edges of the motif shimmer slightly against the matt ground, which is the whole point of an ikat, delivered here in the weave rather than the print. The repeat is tight, and the cloth's soft lustre does its best work on cushions and occasional pieces.
