Obie is a stripe woven in pure cotton, the bands set narrow, at little more than a centimetre, so the cloth reads with the crisp, laundered regularity of ticking. It rates to a severe domestic standard, sturdier than its lightness suggests, and flame-retardant treatments are available. A cloth with a long domestic pedigree behind it, as much at home on a headboard as a kitchen chair.
