Telamons, masks and cornices from the classical repertoire, set among motifs borrowed from oriental dress, which is exactly the mixture an eighteenth-century Venetian house wanted: antiquity and chinoiserie in one room, neither apologising for the other.
It is a lampas, and the ornament is carried by a metallic weave against the sheen of the silk ground, so the figure reads by its shine rather than by any contrast of colour. Eleven per cent of the cloth is metallic yarn; the rest is cotton, silk, viscose, acetate and linen. The palette follows the classical one and not a modern reading of it.
The repeat is 51.7 by 35 cm at 140 cm wide, 384 g. Five colourways. Curtains, cushions and panels; not seating. Made in Italy.
