Damask is the oldest way of getting a pattern out of a single set of yarns: one weave structure for the figure, another for the ground, and the design appears as a difference in how light is returned rather than as a difference in colour. Turn the cloth over and figure and ground change places.
The repeat is 48 cm vertically and 35 cm across, the scale of a traditional furnishing damask, which sits comfortably on a curtain, a panel or a headboard and completes itself once in a generous drop. Viscose carries four fifths of it with silk for the lustre, at 380 g and 140 cm wide.
The six colourways are named for stones, from ivory and amber through malachite, sapphire, ruby and topaz, so the palette runs saturated, not pale. Made in Italy.
