Chiné is the technique in which the warp is printed before it is woven, so the pattern arrives on the loom already slightly out of register and everything in the finished cloth has a soft, feathered edge. Rubelli found a Fifties chiné in its historical archive and rebuilt the effect as a jacquard.
No repeat is quoted, which tells you what sort of design it is: an all-over texture with nothing to match and nothing to centre. A shiny metallic weft runs against a matt ground and the contrast between the two carries the whole surface. Fourteen colourways is a wide range for a texture.
