A silk sateen in which the warp is silk and the weft cotton, each dyed a different shade, so that the two catch light differently and the cloth changes as you move past it. That shot effect is the whole point of the fabric, and it is why the palette stays deliberately pale: the shift needs quiet ground to be visible at all. Rubelli named it for the hour it resembles.
Formafantasma drew it, and the restraint is theirs. Nineteen colourways, none of them loud, most within a half-tone of the next. The hand is soft rather than crisp, which is unusual in a sateen and comes from the cotton. It is a decorating cloth: curtains, blinds, cushions, panels where the light will reach it. At 138 cm it is a conventional width and behaves conventionally on the table. Made in Italy.
