Rubelli | Baccarat

An exact transcription of a document held in the Rubelli archive, which means the design has not been redrawn or simplified: the floral elements and cornices climb in the winding way a rococo pattern does, and the proportions are the original ones.

Metallic and polychrome wefts are worked into the silk, so the ornament is constructed out of light rather than out of drawn line, and the versions carry the colours of a period that took refinement seriously. The horizontal repeat is narrow at 22.5 cm and the vertical long at 56.3 cm, which is what gives the rise its upward push.
