The Jesuit church in Venice has its nave and aisles lined in white and green marble, inlaid to imitate hanging tapestry; the joke of the building is that stone has been made to look like cloth. This damask reverses it, taking the baroque marble ornament and scaling it down to a 64 cm repeat.
The weft is Novafil, two threads of it, one gold and one silver, run against a coloured silk warp. That is where the shimmer comes from, and why the colour shifts as the light moves instead of sitting still. At 245 g it is light for a damask of this scale and the hand is soft and silky.
Five colourways at 140 cm. Rubelli counts it among the most important fabrics in its collection. Made in Italy.
