Claire Falkenstein made the entrance gates to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice in 1961, in metal with glass set into it. This lampas is drawn from them. The lines interlock and keep moving, and the glass reappears as bodies caught among them, planets or meteors depending on how you look at it, with the whole thing standing in for infinite space.
Getting a metal object into cloth is the difficulty, and it is solved with iridescence: the silk shifts as the light moves, which is what a worked metal surface does. The repeat is 100 cm vertically by 70 cm across, so a curtain drop shows the composition once.
Rated for light use, offered in one version, 460 g at 140 cm. A share of the proceeds supports the museum's work. Made in Italy.
