A yarn-dyed velvet that has been engineered rather than woven soft. It is not cotton velvet and does not pretend to be: the pile is flame-retardant polyester through and through, and the surface reads closer to wool than to silk, dry, matt, faintly dense. That flatness is what makes it work in a room. It takes light without throwing it back.
The performance is the reason to specify it. Seventy thousand Martindale rubs, certified for contract upholstery and curtains in the UK, France, Germany, Italy and the United States, and IMO 8 for marine use. It washes, it resists creasing, and it holds its colour. Twenty-four shades run from the expected neutrals into lime, apricot and mint, which is a more interesting palette than a technical velvet usually gets. Suitable for intense use. Woven in Germany.
