Chine is a warp-printed technique. The colour goes onto the warp threads before weaving, so its edges blur as the weft crosses them and nothing in the pattern quite lands where it should. On a satin ground that blur becomes a shimmer, and Rubelli have set against it a raised pattern of broken lines, which gives the eye something firm to hold.
The hand is fluid and the cloth light at 270 g, a silk blend meant to fall rather than to cover. It was made to sit with the S. Marco damask and still does.
