In a lampas the pattern weft rides above the ground cloth and is bound in only where the figure needs holding, so the design keeps its own weight and sheen instead of being locked flat into the weave. It is the structure the Venetian silk trade used for its most figured cloths, and Rubelli still weave it.
Here it is worked in viscose and cotton at 500 g, with a 45 cm vertical and 35 cm horizontal repeat: a figure of some size, which wants a long drop or a broad panel to be seen whole rather than a small chair. No abrasion figure is published, which places it among the decorating cloths rather than the upholstery ones. Four colourways, 140 cm wide, made in Italy.
