Metal thread on a silk ground, taken from a sixteenth-century fragment held in Rubelli's own museum. The ornament is stylised in the way Italian silk ornament stayed stylised for two hundred years, and the metal does the work that colour would otherwise have to do: it sits brighter and harder than silk under light, so the figure lifts off its ground without any change of shade.
It is a brocade, which means the pattern wefts are carried only where the design calls for them and cut away behind, and it is light for its class at 320 g. A 41 by 35 cm repeat, seven colourways. Curtains, blinds, cushions, a headboard panel. Made in Italy, 140 cm wide.
