Rubelli made the design before they wove it. Ribbons were plaited by hand, almost into knots, and the resulting object was then translated into a jacquard, which is the reverse of the usual order and shows in the cloth: the crossings sit where a hand put them rather than where a repeat would have placed them, and the plait keeps the slight untidiness of real work.
Close to, the ribbon crossings catch light along their length and go dark across it, so the plait has depth without any change of colour. Acetate with cotton and silk at 360 g, a 52 cm vertical and 70 cm horizontal repeat, eight colourways. A decorating weight, for curtains, blinds and cushions. Woven in Italy, 140 cm wide.
