The surface is hammered, and it got that way by tension rather than by any embossing plate. Two wefts run through the cloth, cotton and a fine wool, and they sit at different tensions; that difference is what moves the surface. What is left is a shallow, irregular quilting, and light collects in it.
Silk in the warp against wool gives the iridescence, a shift of shade as the angle changes, and the palette is broad at eighteen colourways. It is heavy for a satin at 320 g and looks made by hand rather than milled. Rubelli rate it for decoration: curtains, blinds, cushions, a padded headboard. Woven in Italy, 135 cm wide.
