Colour is the entire argument. The winding damask figure is conventional enough; what is not conventional is putting it in pairs of high shades, each colourway built from two, so the cloth reads one way from one angle and another from the next. Shaded weaves take the edge off what would otherwise be a hard contrast.
There is no metallic yarn in it; the iridescence is entirely a matter of two colours crossing in the weave. At 240 g it is light for a damask, and the 59 cm vertical repeat is long, so the figure develops properly down a curtain drop. Acetate, viscose and silk, five colourways, 135 cm wide, made in Italy.
