Brick, but painted brick. Luke Edward Hall took it from a bath surround he saw illustrated in a book, and the courses have the slightly wrong regularity of something laid out by hand with a brush. Each block is shaded so that it appears to stand proud of the surface, which is a trick of the eye and nothing more; the cloth is flat.
It is built as a lampas with several wefts in linen and cotton, and the weight tells you what that adds up to: 600 g at 140 cm wide, with a small repeat of 14 cm by 11.5 cm that will not be wasted on a modest frame. Four colourways, made in Italy.
